Frobozz Has The Services
I currently have two machines running Windows 2000 Server, available to host
Internet services. These machines are Sprocket (canonical name:
sprocket.skunkwks.net) and Gobo (canonical name:
gobo.skunkwks.net). Some services are available under another name,
such as time.frobozz.ws, this would be an alias for whichever
machine is actually running the service. Use the alias names whenever possible,
I may change who is running what, or add new machines, without notice. Aliases
will always point to the correct machine.
World
The World service is an online Virtual Reality world where your visitors can
chat, build, and explore. This whole website is dedicated to teaching people about
online VR and selling this hosting service, however the
world hosting
page has the specifics.
The world server software is provided by ActiveWorlds Corporation.
Each customer gets their own instance (copy) of the world hosting software,
running on individual TCP port numbers, starting with port 7001. Each instance
of the world hosting software can run any number of worlds. The aliases
of the primary and backup world servers are wrldsrv.frobozz.ws and
wrldbak.frobozz.ws respectively. For VR browser access, the Uniserver
maintains a list of worlds by name, along with the IP addresses and port numbers.
So visitors have only to click on the world's name in their interface. For access
via the remote administration tool, host name and port number are controlled by
a local .ini file. I provide a package to my world hosting customers with the
remote admin tool and a properly configured .ini file.
For any single customer, only the primary or the backup copy of the world hosting software can be active at a time. Switch over between servers is manual, but the active server constantly updates the files on the standby server.
As of 29-Sep-04 the Frobozz Magic Hosting Company is 19 separate instances of the world service running a total of 30 worlds.
